Sofia Marcus is a senior at American University (AU) double majoring in Journalism and Justice, Law & Criminology (JLC). She has experience in crime reporting at West Boca News, where she wrote short articles about crime occurrences in the local areas, and at D.C. Witness, where she attended criminal court hearings at Moultrie Courthouse in D.C. regarding homicides and non-fatal shootings and wrote articles about the outcome/results of the hearings.
Sofia also writes about entertainment, culture, and similar topics for The Eagle (American University's largest campus publication), where she is a contributor for the Life and News sections, and The Aviary (a student-run women and non-binary focused online publication and magazine), where she currently acts as the Managing Editor for their online section. She is also the Secretary for the 2024-25 academic year for AU’s Student Media Board.
Alongside her passion for journalism, Sofia is interested in teaching others in an educational setting. She was a Senior Peer Facilitator for the AU Experience Courses for over a year. She has also worked at the after-school education program Kumon as tutor for about 2 years. Right now, Sofia is searching for an internship role or job in the journalism field, whether that be in investigative reporting, entertainment writing, or crime reporting.
